Mindset and ACL Recovery: Mindset is Everything
Mindset is everything; especially when it comes to ACL surgery and recovery. This is going to be a painful struggle and it’s going to test your mental and physical capabilities. The best thing you can do to prepare yourself is focus on your thoughts and attitude. Making sure that your thoughts provoke a positive attitude is the best way to get through recovery and rehabilitation without letting it beat you. It’s all about your approach to the situation you are in because you cannot change your circumstances.
A common thought process during recovery allows your mind to limit you and you may not even realize it. Saying things like “I can’t do that because of my knee” or “I can’t go there because I’m having surgery” puts the power into the negatives and the things you cannot control. Yes, you are going to have limitations during your recovery and you will need to be smart about your approach to recovery but remember they are TEMPORARY. Try focusing on thoughts like “I might not be able to join this week but I will be able to soon!” or “I’m unable to do that now because I’m working towards being able to again soon!” It doesn’t seem like that much of a difference but the more you repeat those negative phases and give them power the more your brain remembers and resonates with those feelings. Don’t let your mind turn a temporary setback into your next insecurity. You are much better, stronger, and smarter than that. You deserve so much more in your life than to let a temporary setback control your mood, your attitude, and limit your direction. Stand up for yourself. Stand up for your knee. Take control of your thoughts and emotions. You have the power to stay positive.
